New kitchen shop gives Connie food for thought

West End star Connie Fisher has revealed that a big bowl of pasta gives her bags of energy when she is performing on stage for up to eight times a week.

Connie, who returned to her native Pembrokeshire to officially open a bespoke kitchen business launched by one of her oldest friends, admits she doesn’t have time to cook when she is working but, when she does, Italian food is her passion.

“I’m the world’s worst cook but my mother has a great recipe for tagliatelle with a creamy sauce and I make it all the time,’’ says the Sound of Music star who will appear on screens on Christmas Eve in her first television drama.

When Connie’s old school friend, Lawrence Lyons, asked her to open his Lawrence Lyons Exclusive Kitchens showroom in Market Street, Haverfordwest, she jumped at the chance because she is on the look-out for a new kitchen.

She grew up in a farmhouse in Hayscastle which had a traditional kitchen complete with a Rayburn. In contrast, the cooking area in her London flat is minimalist high gloss and cutting edge design. Lawrence’s new business specialises in top of the range contemporary and traditional designs.

“Lawrence has given me lots of really good advice and visiting his showroom has left me spoilt for choice. There is such a good range of individual designs,’’ she says.

“I love the minimalist look but I think one day I would love a very traditional kitchen with big shiny black granite worktops and an island in the middle.’’

In the meantime she is polishing up on her culinary skills. “My mother has given up buying me recipe books and has bought me some cookery lessons instead!’’ she says.
